This light and tasty sardine pâté will be done in just minutes, tastes heavenly, and will even be fit to endear your children to fish! Even picky little scallywags will love this on their favorite sandwich!
sardine pâté is an especially good choice for children, since sardines are small, and have shorter lifespans, meaning that they spend less time in water before ending up in cans, which in turn leads to minimal mercury levels, meaning that you don’t have to think twice about using them in any tasty dish!
What can be a problem, however, is that removing the little bones, the skin and the spine can seem like a hassle. For adults this might be less of a problem, but they could be straight up repulsive to children! Luckily there are some cans of sardines in our selection that won’t be as bothersome – such as the premium quality, strictly skin- and boneless cans of sardine by Briosa and Cocagne! Since even the mere sight of fish can sometimes be repulsive to the little ones, it is advisable to start with homemade fish spreads, or fish pâtés.
Ingredients:
- 1 can skin- and boneless sardine fillets in olive oil (e.g. Briose Sardine fillets in olive oil)
- 60 g soft butter (not margarine!)
- 60 g low-fat cream cheese
- 1 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
- finely chopped parsley to taste
- optionally black pepper and chili flakes, for adults
How to prepare:
- Mash up the sardines with a fork, add the butter, cream cheese and lemon juice.
- Put your mixture in a stand mixer and mix it till it’s creamy-smooth!
- Season the mixture to taste: add parsley, salt and pepper, hot spices or some more lemon juice to your liking.
- Let your pâté rest in the fridge for a couple hours before serving, so that all the flavors can get to know each other.
Hint: Use the pâté in a sandwich, with delicious, fresh vegetable, or simply on freshly made, crispy rye-toast. If you wanted to prepare more of it, simply double or triple all the ingredient amounts, but make sure you eat all of it within 24 hours!
